| Your questions... answered! How is the material graded? We use our own levels system:- B,1,2,3. The website includes a simple diagram which maps our levels to the National Curriculum Key Stages, as well as Scottish and vocational qualifications. B = beginners, 1 = pre-GCSE and similar courses, 2 = GCSE/equivalent, and 3 = beyond GSCE/equivalent. We don't have easy access to the Internet - how can we use the material? Even if you can only get to an Internet-connected computer once a week for 10 minutes or so, you can print out fresh topical material in a format that's ready for use in the classroom, with just a few mouse clicks. What service guarantees do you offer? No-one can give a cast-iron guarantee that you will never have a problem accessing the service:- the Internet is a big and complex network, and occasionally 'glitches' do occur. Our best guarantee is our track record. We delivered FELINE materials regularly for over 22 years, reliably and on time. We'll always do our best, and our best is pretty good! Can I really use this on a whole network of computers? Yes, the subscription provides a site licence. If you have the facilities, you can use the service from many machines at the licensed site, simultaneously. (But test it before you try it with a whole class, just to be sure your establishment's network can handle it.) Is there an alternative to having an ID and password? Yes, if your ICT network has suitable facilities. (Technical note: you need your own 'proxy server'.) We have a number of subscribers who are 'recognised' by our checking system, and are not asked for an ID or password to get into the subscribers' area. Who produces this service? A team of language specialists (who are all practising teachers) along with technical and administrative staff. The team has been together for some years, producing high quality online resources for MFL, and we are all very experienced at what we do. By the way, what about Curriculum Online? Curriculum Online is now consigned to its rightful place in the initiative dustbin. But we've kept the answer, below, ready to adapt for any future wheezes. The service we provide on this website is in its 22nd year. It's older than the Web itself, and it's probably the longest running online educational service for schools in the world. During that time, successive governments have sought to change education (in England and Wales) in many different ways. Curriculum Online is just another scheme... with the apparent objectives of micromanaging the way in which school resources budgets are spent, and providing a gravy train for participating resource providers. Like every other policy initiative, schools will have to follow and/or subvert it to best advantage. We have refrained from becoming involved. Return to Previous Page |
